Now for something completely different. Just proving our great breed can do anything!! Sophie Richardson (6) having a great time this season with pony club mounted games riding Hedderwick Tara for Zetland Hunt Pony Club & wearing that all important white hatband, well you have to have your best pony going last to bring it home for the team. PHF photography So pleased for Alex Plant, Jan Lipscombe-Plant & Lowmill Billy Bob Who not only took to county level showing for the first time today but were the only shetland in their class. The trio went to Newark and Notts County Show, picking up a brilliant 6th place in a strong mixed M & M lead rein class. Well done, thank you for putting on those brave pants & flying the shetland flag.
More fabulous results coming in Sharptor Bellisima was mini champion at Stretcholt today, also picking up a Royal International ticket in the Heritage Open First Ridden qualifier ridden by Janey Godfrey-Faussett and owned by Julian Walters. congratulation to all involved including Lizzie Finlayson-Briant. Photo Credit - BLM photography The Shetland Performance Display Team at the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships. Thank you The Native Pony Magazine for the great video of our team. This is Lyradale Skye Blue aka Bow with 7yr old Jess Riding. Jess had a bad experience on a 11.2hh pony she was trying out to buy but Jess kept saying she wanted a Shetland so we hunted for 6 months & found Bow. She has turned her hoof to everything we have asked, from winning at her first showing class , to attempting the Shetland racing this weekend just gone & loved every minute. Bow was brought unbroken & with hard work & determination Jess has done a brilliant job. Stacy Collier Lexi-May Granger and her pony Mowview Prince of Egypt, who went to there first show this weekend at Westhoughton riding club. Lexi-May had a try at lots of classes including Best Gelding & Tiny Tots Handler but her favourite was the shetland classes (a young lady with very good taste we say ), coming home with a rainbow of rosettes. Thank you Sofe Kate Evans for sending this to us, she said “They had a fantastic time and we're all so proud of them both” Well what a fabulous start for the gelding Firle Gideon Not only with a win but an Royal international qualification to go with it. The 5yr old won the RIHS Small Breeds at BSPS 15a Addington yesterday that they only entered on a whim. Ridden by Rebecca Lee who is 12. Fiona McNaught Our display team will be at CountryTastic next week, so pop in & watch their lovely display. The display for this event covers everything about our wonderful breed with leadreins, first riddens, Open, in hand & driven ponies all included. This year the focus is horses of all shapes & sizes. Hope to see you there. You know we like to post not only your showing success (whatever the colour of the rosettes) but also anything showing our fabulous breed & their amazing versatility. Knix Perfect Pete seems to show both sides at once not only winning the open non welsh M&M class at the Wiltshire show on Saturday, his first show of the year, but then entertaining little James. We can’t think of a better babysitter than Pete. More results from the weekend & lovely to see this pair. Lyndsey Jackson. Lola-Mae Hughes and Bouquet of Crafton attended their first show of the season at Sash & Cash Show wining the lead rein class and taking supreme ridden champion. Off to a winning start for Hermione Follows & Coppice Brigitte. Having owned this pony for less than a month they ventured into the ring for the first time together this weekend. Winning their class and going mini champion. What a brilliant result, we look forward to seeing more from this pair throughout the season. Not to be outdone by her little sister, big sister Sophie Moore with the multi talented Clothie Flyn and Ellen Thom with Eynhallow Smoke were joint junior whip champions for the North of Scotland Indoor Horse Driving Trials League with their very able groom Elinor Bosanquet (also auntie to Sophie).
Sophie and Ellen have also qualified for the National Indoor Driving Trials Championships Elinor’s team of Clothie Flyn, Humbell, Black Label and Night Idiot who were unbeaten this season again proving our fabulously versatile breed can turn their hooves to anything, so the fun doesn’t have to stop if you grow too big to ride. The lovely Ginny Williams, our Overall Driving Awards Champion 2018 is not only in the current Native Pony Magazine but now features in the Blue Cross Volunteer News as well. Well done Ginny, super to see. "Back in 2018 I started volunteering as a Horse Welfare Home Visitor for the Blue Cross, and this month they asked to run a short article about me and my horses, so here we are in print again! I have really enjoyed what I have done with them so far and am hoping to do a lot more 2019, as it is such a rewarding thing to do!" Ginny |
