A huge congratulations and thank you to each and every pony entered in our first Inhand Awards Scheme & especially well done to Overall Points Winner, 2yr old Colt Pinglewood Thornton owned by Trudy Waterhouse whose card was bursting with Championships and won a very close points Championship. Trudy will receive a traditionally Hand Crafted, finest Sedgwick English leather Bridle or Filly Slip presented by Native Pony Bridles who have also kindly sponsored all awards and costs of the scheme this year.
Marking the cards has been an absolute pleasure and has given us a real insight into the individual achievements of the ponies within this category and not just the winners. We have been so impressed that we have decided to introduce 'Special Recognition' rosette/s each year for members who haven't necessarily won, but whose whose results have caught our eye for a special reason. This year we have chosen to present 5 of these special awards....

Another lovely write up,this time for the very talented Elinor Bosanquet of the Clothie Stud in Carriage Driving magazine.
A group of registered Shetland ponies who race, show, drive and charm the crowds have been taking the country by storm.
The Shetland Performance Display Team, which is based in Wiltshire, has been in demand as far as Yorkshire to entertain the public at shows.
The squad, which usually numbers between six and 15, has been a hit in South West England, promoting the versatility of the breed and raising money for charity.
The team’s manager Isabella Bride said that while the display predominantly focused on races and relays, it is open to anyone who wanted to join and show off their Shetlands.

This year, the annual Southern Shetland Pony Group get-together was held in the pleasant surroundings of Hamptworth Golf Course, to celebrate the 2018 season and new beginnings in 2019. As usual, many of our members joined us and it was a pleasure to all be together without ponies for once; although the topic of ponies was never far from anyone’s lips naturally. After a lovely buffet lunch, we worked our way through the overflowing raffle table and Lynda’s popular quiz, which was won by Buxted Stud for the second year in a row. The afternoon continued with a round of thanks to our team of helpers and of course an applause for the members themselves, who have continued to support the activities throughout 2018........
A sneaky peek at the Welsh Rider February issue!

Eloise Webber with Oldvicarage Glamageddon trying something new for this season. Mum Claire has this to say...
“Well these 2 had a fab start to their 2019 season. 3rd in the mini cross poles class. This pony is a superstar, he had 3 month off and only been back in work at the beginning of the school holidays. He took it all in his stride, someone now wants to do more jumping so that’s what we will be concentrating on this year with a few other things thrown in”.
Leah Donald & Horninglow Penruddock start 2019 in style, Leah sporting her new Shetland Performance jacket too.
"Leah and Dock off to a flying start for 2019 winning their arena eventing Class today - the new Shetland Performance Jacket looked fab as they flew round".
Flying so fast mum Claire had trouble getting photos... well done Leah.
A lovely photo and result to start the day. Seeing the breed being promoted and having such fun in all areas is what Shetland Performance is all about, well done Scarlett you look super smart and we hear you enjoyed the dressage more than showing so we look forward to more of your future dressage photos.
"5yr old Scarlett and Red's (Broadspring Tango) first dressage test. 4th and highest placed junior." Megan Halsall
It was with much sadness that we recently learnt of the passing of Mr Ian Bailey who will be hugely missed by many. For private personal reasons the family held a quiet funeral and we send our warmest, most heartfelt wishes to Jenny and Ian's family and friends at this must difficult time.....
"It is with much sadness that the Southern Shetland Pony Group must announce the death of Mr Ian Bailey. (Touchwood Stud) We send our thoughts and very best wishes to his wife Jenny, who has not been in the best of health herself recently. Ian’s funeral took place yesterday at Thatcham near Newbury with close friends and family.

"OK - its taken me a few days to get this far - and to be honest I’m still not sure I’m ready - but on Friday the 21st of December we lost our very precious Waulkmill Redstart along with Anna Chaplin and Ross Key’s Star in a very tragic accident.
Bought from a photo on Gerry Hart’s shetland-pony.com website at 3 weeks old from Roweena Provan (Earnbrig Reynard x Waulkmill Swallow), he arrived with us at 4am on a very foggy morning at 6 months old and turned our lives upside down........
They were also the National champion for Scotland along with many other prizes. Now Dock as he’s known at home was a novice pony this season & under Leah’s care & hard work has become a real star.
Claire Donald (Leah’s mum)sent us this lovely messsge
Thank you so much for all the beautiful rosettes - never seen Leah so excited 😁 her little pony means the world to her and your organisation does so much for the breed and those that love the breed - I know what goes into organising shows so thank you so much for all your hard work and hope you have a great Christmas and a happy, healthy, successful 2019.
We are so pleased Leah could open an early present,we thank each & every member for joining in the fun.
A huge well done to Katrina Byrne and Cumliebank Justory whose 1200 mile round trip to Olympia from Scotland paid of with a very credible 7th and some great breed flag flying.
Katrina said "He struggled with the heat a little in the warm up and showed a little bit more of his character than we really needed while waiting in the line up, but that’s why we love him. His 2 individual performances were really super and it was great to be in the big ring. "
Well done to Inhand Awards Scheme member Lucy Pope today with Lornarth Jigsaw winning the Shetland Class, the Stallion class and standing Reserve Coloured Champion at the High Horse Rescue show which raised a whopping £1001.00!
A big hand all round.
SPS-BS Breed Show in 1999 so decided it was time to try it again. This was their first attempt - Clothie Night Idiot leader, Clothie Black Label swing and Clothie Flyn wheeler. They were perfectly behaved boys six reins in one hand is a little tricky though!
